Since 1999, YWCA WNY has provided housing and support services for low-income seniors. Located at 1005 Grant Street Buffalo, NY 14207, School House Commons features 64 independent-living apartment units and is funded under the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, Section 202, Housing of the Elderly.

Working collaboratively with community organizations and regional partners, YWCA WNY continually works to enrich and expand community engagement opportunities, support services, and regular social activity offerings for all School House Commons residents.  Programming empowers participants to remove the barriers that prevent them from maintaining permanent housing, increasing self-sufficiency and independence, improving quality of life, and minimizing aging isolation, the primary goals for all program participants.
