Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This campaign is one part of YWCA USA’s larger national strategy to fulfill our mission of eliminating racism. Most local YWCAs, along with a myriad of other community organizations, host Stand Against Racism events. This year’s theme is “Women of Color Leading Change.” Stand Against Racism events run from April 27 through April 30th. More info on the National effort can be found at standagainstracism.org

On Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, YWCA WNY will be hosting an Art Exhibit entitled A Thriving Community without Divide and Resource Fair as our Stand Against Racism event. All of our program participants (children, youth, teens, families and seniors) will create artwork that reflects their understanding of the bolded words from our mission:

YWCA IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL.

The Resource Fair will include tabling by local racial justice organizations to provide information to attendees.

As part of the art exhibit, we will honor women of color throughout history who have led change—both globally and locally.

Refreshments will be served.
