YWCA OF WESTERN NEW YORK - HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

The YWCA of Western New York held its annual meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2007.  

Katherine Lwebuga-Mukasa, C.E.O. of the YWCA of WNY recapped the past year's accomplishments & challenges and provided direction and insight for next year. Katherine cited just a few of the 2007 highlights including:

    - Leadership Luncheon recognized 38 community leaders
    - Ray of Light honored 33 outstanding young women
    - Week Without Violence 2006—Youth Conference on Violence
    - Leadership & Training—Moved to a new facility (385 Franklin)
    -
    Formation of Racial Justice Committee
    - New Website
    - Regular Our Voice Newsletters
    - Restorative work being done at School House Commons
    - Week Without Violence 2007 Art Exhibition
    - Formation of the Transitional Housing Coalition of Western New York

Katherine also announced some exciting projects planned for 2007-08:

- Leadership Luncheon
- Ray of Light
- Week Without Violence Art Exhibition
- Racial Justice campaign launched
- Institute for Public Leadership revitalized
- YWCA of WNY Community Café
- Development of the East-side Coalition

Board of Directors Recognizes Ida Klahn

Ida Klahn was recognized for her years of service as a board member.  Ms. Klahn had to step down due to changes in her schedule.   Over the years, Ms. Klahn took leadership rolls in organizing key events and provided technical expertise in website development. 

Her insight and leadership will be missed.
